HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We have received an overwhelming response from you, our members, asking how you can help us continue to serve our community through this crisis. STICK WITH THE Y and you will ensure that our Y will remain strong during this difficult time and be poised to help and support those neighbors who need us most.

In the email you received from us on March 16th, it was explained that we would not be drafting your April payment. One way you can help is to STICK WITH THE Y. Let us know that you are willing to continue to draft your membership payments. Many members have already decided to STICK WITH THE Y and have asked us not to suspend their monthly drafts. This will help support our efforts of providing Critical Childcare to the children of medical personnel from Mercy Health and first responders, a program we are currently offering at the YMCA.

To STICK WITH THE Y, all you need to do is send an email to our Membership Director, Tamra Lucas tlucas@youngstownymca.org requesting that the YMCA continue your scheduled membership draft payments. Tamra will respond to your email within 48 hours to confirm your request.

Timing is important. So that we can honor your request, please have your email to Tamra by:

Wednesday, March 25, (for 1st of the month drafts)

April 8, (for 15th of the month drafts)

Another way to help is to make a donation that will support us in continuing to meet the needs of our community, which currently includes providing Critical Childcare for the children of Mercy Health medical personnel and first responders. Thanks for your support and for being part of our YMCA family. Click HERE to donate.

The following is a statement from YMCA of Youngstown sent to the media this afternoon:

YMCA OF YOUNGSTOWN TEMPORARILY CLOSES FACILITIES

Youngstown, OHIO: March 16, 2020 –At the YMCA of Youngstown, the safety and well-being of our members, staff, volunteers, and the communities we serve always been and will always be a top priority.

We have been diligently monitoring all national, state, and local updates surrounding the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation. In order to best ensure the health of our entire Y community, we have decided to close the Central YMCA and Davis Family YMCA to the public effective March 17, 2020 through April 6, 2020.

We understand this is a very concerning situation. The YMCA of Youngstown has been a pillar of our community for more than 135 years, throughout both good and challenging times. The decision to close our YMCAs was made to best ensure the safety of everyone in our community and has been confirmed by the mandate of Ohio Governor DeWine. We will continue to monitor this evolving situation and will work with local officials to determine what future actions will be necessary.

During this closure, we will provide updates to staff, members and participants via emails, our website, ymcayo.org, and social media channels: Facebook and Instagram.

We are asking everyone to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and take their own measures to protect themselves, including not putting themselves in situations with large crowds or where they come in close contact with others, staying home if they do not feel well, frequently washing their hands with soap and water and covering their coughs and sneezes.

God Bless You.

DAY OF PRAYER • 3/15/2020

President Trump has declared today a National Day of Prayer.

So today, as leaders of the YMCA of Youngstown (Central Y, Davis Family Y, and Camp Fitch Y), we pray together for God’s added wisdom, comfort and strength. We pray for our Ys, our staff and their families, our members and their families and our community, for protection, health and well-being. We pray for guidance and wisdom from the Holy Spirit as we make decisions impacting our Ys and the communities that we serve.

We give glory to God and thanks for all the blessings He has bestowed on our Ys and we will continue to glorify Him in all that we do. We will continue to lift Him up and lean on Him throughout these difficult times and give Him all the glory for what He will do for us.

Romans 12:12 - Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

How to protect your family

There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19, but there are a few things you can do to keep your family healthy:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer. Look for one that is 60% or higher alcohol-based.
  • Keep your kids away from others who are sick or keep them home if they are ill.
  • Teach kids to cough and sneeze into a tissue (make sure to throw it away after each use!) or to cough and sneeze into their arm or elbow, not their hands.

    Maintaining a Healthy Environment

The health and safety of our staff, members and participants remain our top priority.

The YMCA of Youngstown is following updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), the Ohio Department of Health and the Mahoning County District Board of Health. We are actively monitoring the situation and have developed action plans and specific efforts to maintain a healthy environment across all our YMCAs.

Currently, we have enhanced our cleaning protocols to give focused attention to all surfaces, equipment and common areas. We are actively reinforcing the preventative measures outlined by the CDC and ensuring that hand sanitizing stations and wipes to clean equipment continue to be available in all our facilities.

    Maintaining a Healthy Environment

Health officials continue to advise us on the importance of being vigilant in our efforts to prevent the spread of illness. We can all immediately continue to support a healthy Y and community by following these common-sense precautions:

    • Wash hands frequently with soap and water, and for at least 20 seconds per hand; use hand sanitizer if washing is not available.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
    • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze; throw used tissue immediately in the trash. Practice good cough and sneeze etiquette.
    • Wipe down equipment and weights after use and be extra thorough.
    • The 'elbow bump' is your new high-five if you see a friend at the Y.
    • Stay home when you feel ill.

Should this issue escalate across the communities we serve, our Y will take the necessary precautions to ensure that you, along with our members and participants, are safe.

As with all health concerns, if you have questions about what’s best for you, you should speak with your healthcare professional.

You can find additional resources and information on the Coronavirus here:

Thank you for working with us to ensure the health of your fellow members, our YMCA and the community. We look forward to seeing you soon.  God Bless You.
