Youngstown Swims Initiative
What is Youngstown Swims?
Youngstown Swims is an initiative of the YMCA of Youngstown to teach the community to swim, one kid at a time. By raising funds for this initiative we are able to provide financial assistance for kids to take swim lessons and also provide swim lessons to all 2nd graders in the Youngstown City Schools. New This Summer:
As part of the Youngstown Swims initiative, YMCA of Youngstown staff will be providing swim lessons to Youngstown City kids at the Northside Pool (Belmont Ave) this summer at no cost.
There are three swim lesson sessions:
- Session 1 & 2 - Day Camps: for kids attending Youngstown City Parks & Rec Day Camps
- Session 3 – Community: for kids residing in the city of Youngstown
Swimsuit & Goggle Drive:
Many of the children in this service area do not own a swimsuit and cannot afford to purchase one. We are collecting NEW swimsuits and goggles so that these children can participate in the program and learn to swim and be safe in and around the water. Drop off your donations at the Service Desk at either the Central Y or Davis Family Y. Before each of the three swim lesson sessions, we will deliver the collected swimsuits and goggles to the Youngstown City Parks & Recreation staff. We will be collecting the items through July 19, just before Session 3, the final summer session. Instructions as to what kind of swim suits to purchase are as follows:
- NEW swimsuits
- Youth or Adult sizes for boys and girls (Kids are ages 5 to 18)
- Girls swimsuits – Prefer one-piece
- Goggles – Youth or Adult
