Swim Lessons

CenSwimLessons

The YMCA has been teaching swim lessons for over 100 years. Although many other agencies and organizations offer swim lessons, the difference is this: The Y uses programs as a vehicle to deliver its mission, which is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The YMCA swim lesson program is designed to ensure students’ safety, provide students with regular, progressive success, and make the learning process enjoyable.

The YMCA Swim Lesson program uses a lot of group practice, which gives participants more swim time (and less time waiting for a turn). Our program also includes a lot of games and activities, which have been designed to allow students to practice the skills they are learning while having fun at the same time. Swim lessons at the Y are available for ages 6 months through adults (children under the age of 3 must have a parent or guardian in the water with them during class). To find out which class is most appropriate for you or your child, please take a closer look at the Stage Descriptions, Lesson Selector, and Swimming Skills documents below.

Swim Assessments

Still not sure which class to register for? Contact Emily George, Central YMCA Aquatic Coordinator at 330-744-8411 x 132 or egeorge@youngstownymca.org, OR Megan Gocala, Davis Family YMCA Aquatic Coordinator at at 330-480-5656 x 250 or mgocala@youngstownymca.org, to schedule a free Swim Assessment.

Private Swim Lessons

In addition to our standard 6-week sessions that run year-round, your YMCA also offers Private Swim Lessons. Private lessons are ideal for the student who requires more one-on-one attention or possibly an adult who is learning to swim or someone who is looking to perfect their stroke.

Whatever the reason, we have a number of instructors available. We do our best to match students with an instructor based on availability, skill, and gender preferences when possible. We also offer a semi-private option where two individuals with similar ability take the lessons together.

To schedule a Private Lesson, contact Emily George at 330-744-8411 or egeorge@youngstownymca.org OR Megan Gocala, Davis Family YMCA Aquatic Coordinator at at 330-480-5656 x 250 or mgocala@youngstownymca.org.

Fees for Private Lessons are as follows: (Members/Others)
1 Session: $15/$25
2 People: $12/$20 each
